Shanghai Holiday Sales Surge
Shanghai retailers recorded total revenue of RMB 3.5 billion during the three-day Labor Day long weekend from April 30 to May 2, representing growth of 20.3% y-o-y, state-run Xinhua reported May 2 citing data from a survey of more than 4,000 retail outlets around the city by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce. The 37 shopping malls surveyed recorded sales increase of 11.9% y-o-y to RMB 533 million during the period, while 86 sampled department stores reported a combined revenue of RMB 998 million, up 37.5% annually, according to the report.
