Govt OK’s Ctrip Insurance Provider

The China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC) has approved Ctrip.com International's (Nasdaq:CTRP) plan to establish a RMB 50 million insurance subsidiary, National Business Daily reported July 13 citing a posting on the CIRC site. The new company will be led by Ctrip Vice President Li Xiaoping as its General Manager, and will offer services including provision of insurance policies, premium collection and claim settlements, according to the report.

The travel site has been questioned for its qualifications to sell insurance policies for years, and was embroiled in a counterfeit policy scandal in 2009, the report said.
