Airlines Cut Prices as BJ-SH Bullet Train Opens Doors

Chinese airlines, including China Eastern Airlines (NYSE:CEA, 0670.HK, 600115.SH) and Air China (0753.HK, 601111.SH) have started offering plane tickets at prices as low as RMB 450, or with discounts up to 65% on Beijing-Shanghai routes in July to compete for passengers after the Beijing-Shanghai bullet train opens this week, ccstock.cn reported June 30. The intercity high-speed railway line started official operation on June 30, with ticket prices between RMB 410 and RMB 1,750, shortening land-based journeytime between the two cities to less than five hours, chinanews.com reported separately.
