Quick Take: Ctrip Escalates OTA Price War
Ctrip, one of the most conservative companies in our OTA coverage, made a surprise announcement, via public comments by a senior manager, that it will launch a massive US $500m promotion plan, mostly in the form of increased rebates to hotel room online booking customers. This is the most dramatic and costly move seen so far in the online travel price war, and crushes hotel room margins in a tradeoff calculated to grab market share from rivals.
