Taobao Plans Cross-Border Trading Platform
Alibaba's consumer-focused e-commerce site Taobao.com is planning to partner with overseas manufacturers to build a transnational trading platform, allowing domestic users to make purchases overseas more easily, 163.com reported on October 26 citing Taobao Vice President Lu Peng. In the future, Chinese vendors will also be able to present and sell their products to overseas consumers through the platform, according to the report. Lu did not disclose when the platform will go online, said the report.
The platform will bring in third-party partners to manage areas such as customs declaration, storage and delivery, said the report.
Taobao is also planning to launch regional channels where users can find local specialties, the report said. A Sichuan channel has already gone online, and Hunan, Zhejiang and Xinjiang channels are coming, according to the report.
