Sina Adds New Features to Microblog
Sina's (Nasdaq:SINA) Twitter-like microblogging service has launched its "Weibi" virtual currency (translating roughly as "micro-coin"), with which microblog users can buy virtual products and value-added services, imeigu.com reported July 19. Users can top up their microblog accounts at a rate of one Weibi to RMB 1, and account balances in Weibi are non-transferrable or convertible back into RMB, the report said. Sina has also launched a microblog game platform at game.weibo.com, allowing users to see what their contacts are playing, according to the report.
Sina started public testing of its Tumblr-like miniblog service at qing.weibo.com, the company announced in a separate report. The service allows users to login using Sina microblogging accounts and to post content with no text or image size limits, as well as supporting tagging, comments and post sharing functions, according to the report.
