Terrestrial high-definition digital TV began trial broadcasts in Beijing on January 1 and is scheduled to begin broadcasting in five other Olympic cities (Qingdao, Shanghai, Shenyang, Tianjing, Qinhuangdao), Guangzhou and Shenzhen on June 1, reports China Business News quoting a Shanghai Oriental Cable Network employee citing SARFT plans. HDTV network construction is scheduled for completion before May 1 in the seven cities, said the report.
