Hang Seng Index Gains, Resources Strengthen

The Hang Seng Index increased 0.99% to close at 23,760.34 on Tuesday, January 11, in main board trading turnover of HK$71.71 billion. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index improved 0.87%.

Resources companies helped lift the index with CNOOC (NYSE:CEO, 0883.HK), China Shenhua (1088.HK, 601088.SH) and PetroChina (NYSE:PTR, 0857.HK, 601857.SH) gaining 2.26%, 2.09% and 1.78%, respectively.

Airliners also strengthened with Air China (0753.HK, 601111.SH), China Southern Airlines (NYSE:ZNH, 1055.HK, 600029.SH) and Cathay Pacific Airways (0293.HK) climbing 2.57%, 1.19% and 1.59, each.

Insurers were weak today. China Life (NYSE:LFC; 2628.HK; 601628.SH) edged up 0.16%, PICC P&C (2328.HK) decreased 0.75% and Ping An (2318.HK) slipped 0.06%.
