H-Shares Rise, Airlines Still Ahead

The Hang Seng Index rose 1.73% to close at 22,943.98 on November 16, in main board trading volume of HK$76.36 billion.

Shares of China Eastern Airlines (0670.HK, NYSE:CEA, 600115.SH) soared 11.15%, Air China (0753.HK, 601111.SH) rose 8.93% and China Southern Airlines (1055.HK, NYSE:ZNH, 600029.SH) increased 5.11%. Air China reported that it carried 3.71 million passengers in October, up 14.3% year-on-year, according to the Wall Street Journal's China site.

Mining shares also posted gains Monday, with Zijin Mining (2899.HK, 601899.SH) climbing 6.01%, Yanzhou Coal (1171.HK, 600188.SH) up 4.97% and CMOC (3993.HK) increasing 4.73%. The record-high in international gold prices has driven up the value of Zijin Mining's assets, qq.com reports.
